Canon: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Canon Point: Post manga
Species: human
Gender: male
Orientation: Not explicitly stated within canon, although there has been scenes during early canon of asking Tsuna who he'd like to get food made by girls during home economics, as well as reacting to Lambo talking about taking a bath with the girls during the Future arc. He cares for all his friends equally, and then there's baseball. With how nonchalant he is with everyone, he probably doesn't have a preference over one gender over the other.
History: Wikipedia page
Character wikia page
Appearance: Official art, with weapon and one of his weapon box animals.
He stands at 5' 10" (177 cm): fairly tall for a Japanese middle school student. He has a decent build since he's in baseball as well as training with his sword. His hair is short, black and spiky and his eyes are brown. Other than that he's fairly tall, Takeshi looks like an average teenager.
Personality:
Takeshi, at first glance, seems like a guy who laughs at almost everything and takes things very lightly. He goes at his own pace, doesn't easily get swayed by things, and is a "bit" of an airhead. Which is basically true, in a sense. He's friendly, has a smile on his face all the time, and likes to hang around his friends outside of baseball practice. He's optimistic, at times to a fault, especially when it comes to the mafia business with Tsunayoshi, where he thinks he's playing some kind of mafia role-playing game. But that's what makes him a frequent reliable friend for Tsuna as a "normal " close friend during daily life, as well as a comrade when the mafia things come in. And when compared to the other comrades Tsuna has, Takeshi is definitely the most "normal" you can get. His cheerful demeanor enables him to easily make friends with anyone who will let him become friends.
Takeshi is usually in the back, only stepping in when things get a little too heated (i.e., Gokudera and Ryohei arguing, Hibari being Hibari). His nonchalant personae doesn't always work with calming down the situation some times, especially when it comes to interacting with Gokudera, and that he's so my-paced, sometimes things get worse. As mentioned, Takeshi is rarely the one to be the one yelling and unless things get dire, and he's usually enjoying the situation from the sidelines when he's hanging out with Tsuna and company, laughing along. His laid back and cheerful personality is what lets him be fairly popular in class, as well as how he's able to quickly become good friends with Tsuna in a short period of time too.
While he may seem like a smiling airhead almost all the time, it doesn't mean he won't get angry or sad. He's human, after all. He'll get upset when things don'g go his way. The only difference is that unlike Gokudera, whose anger is deal in an explosive manner, and Tsuna, who mopes around most of the time, Takeshi doesn't show his anger outright. The most you will get out of him is a frown, brows knitted together and an extremely quiet and tense atmosphere. It's not explosive, but you still notice the air change around him when he's upset and it's probably a part of Takeshi you would not want to be at the receiving end.
Takeshi takes things seriously as well, like his friends' well-being and baseball. His smile disappears the moment he gets into his baseball mode. When his friends are put in danger, he won't hesitate to step in line of harm in order to protect them. He wasn't like this until he met Tsuna, though; he had put baseball ahead of anything else prior to getting to know the other, to the point where he almost threw his life away when he had to give up on baseball when he suffered an arm injury from due to pushing himself too hard while practicing. He learns that life isn't just baseball when he's saved from his fall by Tsuna, and from that point on he decides that he would prioritize his friends over anything else, including his favorite sport.
The easiest way to get him riled up is to disrespect his friends; Gokudera doesn't go as far as doing this, but when he was still reluctant to fight alongside other Guardians, Takeshi gets upset to the point where he shoves Gokudera off to the side to prevent him from fighting against an opponent while they were trapped in the future, and lectures Gokudera of how he would be straining Tsuna more if he wouldn't consider the other Guardians. The other time Takeshi gets furious is when they learn that the Simon Famiglia members were used by Daemon Spade just for his own amusement. This is also when he even goes as far as saying he will cut down Daemon with his sword. He doesn't raise his voice in both times he gets angry, but just seeing his face is enough to know that he's furious. To make him as furious as he was with Daemon is extremely hard to do unless you are a heartless asshole who treats friends as tools. But why would you even want to make this nice guy angry?
Perhaps this is due to being a baseball player, but Takeshi is extremely competitive. He hates losing. He hates it even more when he loses because he's not strong enough. Competition always gets him fired up quickly and enthusiastic with whatever activity the group does. It's a trait shared across Tsuna's group, not just Takeshi himself, and that's how the group was able to win as many battles as they did.
Takeshi doesn't do so well with studies. He's always in the supplementary lessons Tsuna's in because his grades are so low. But this doesn't mean he's unable to study, he actually can but he just doesn't have the same motivation he has towards baseball to schoolwork, to the point where Gokudera just keeps calling him "baseball idiot" all the time.
Among all of his friends, Tsuna is the closest one yet. The biggest reason behind this is because Tsuna had risked his life to rescue him when he was about to commit suicide after breaking his arm and thus forced to give up baseball (albeit for a while until he fully recovered). Really, who wouldn't after getting rescued from the fall from the top of the school building? Not many would go out of their way like his friend to rescue another person, and Takeshi thinks that part of Tsuna is amazing. Gokudera comes to a close second from spending so much time together with Tsuna. They've basically been together since shortly after Reborn became Tsuna's tutor, and they've been through so many things together, not to mention they're classmates as well. Takeshi has the most fun hanging out with both of them, Tsuna being a great guy and Gokudera being a fun one, and the interactions the three of them have as well as how Tsuna's life seems so exciting is what Takeshi enjoys the most... aside from baseball, of course.
Abilities:
- Baseball: he loves baseball. And is actually pretty good at it! What he excels at most is batting; his swings would go over 300km/hr, since the bat he receives from Reborn early on turns into a sword if the swings are faster than that. He basically can even hit things shot at him from close range.
He also has a strong throw, although in the series you only see him as a baseball idiot who takes anything remotely to throwing a baseball too seriously. He is a starting pitcher after all, so it only makes sense of how he always gets so serious whenever he's going to throw something. (no it doesn't)
- Agility and Adaptability to Surroundings: for a middle schooler, Takeshi's extremely agile. Reborn even notes that he's a natural at "being a hitman," where he can avoid bullets shot at his direction from few yards away. He even withstands against Hibari's attacks for a while during their first encounter, although he's easily defeated by the other when Hibari quickly catches onto Takeshi's habits. He's obviously not the strongest in the group, but to be able to avoid most things without proper fighting experience is an ability in itself. Not only he's decently agile, Takeshi is real quick to pick up on things; studying is one example for daily life, and then there is learning the Shigure Soen Style from his dad from just watching the moves once, in which he then manages to use them with no flaw when he uses them for the first time in the Vongola ring fight. He was also quick to pick up on how to ride a motorcycle as well.
- Swordsmanship: he's the successor of the Shigure Soen Style, an arts that his dad had trained him during the Vongola Ring arc. After getting trained by his dad with the Shigure Soen arts, he's competitive with swords. This art tags along with the Shigure Kintoki, a shinai sword that only turns into a katana when the Shigure Soen style is performed, for maximum damage output.
Shigure Soen Style take different stances and movements, which are all created by the previous successors of the arts. It's an arts that keep evolving as more stances are created, and is never one specific style. The arts is something not anyone can master; only those with high determination and will is able to perform the arts and if not for that, is a style that can die off.
- Dying Will Flame: the core of this series is with the dying will flames, where determination and will is represented as a flame. Takeshi's is of the Rain element, which holds the Tranquility Ability. It diffuses other flames, as well as deflect attacks from opponents. The Vongola ring (which, at his canon point, is now a necklace and not a ring anymore) enables him to create the flame, as well as operate the Vongola box weapon, which summons two animals for him: a rain-element akita dog which he named Jiro and a likewise element sparrow, named Kojiro. Jiro assists in carrying the extra swords brought out by the box (three more in addition to Takeshi's Shigure Kintoki sword). Kojiro the sparrow assists in both defense and offense, where it can fly around to diffuse the opponent's flames, as well as form rain in the area to slow the enemy down as well.
With the Vongola ring upgraded to a necklace, though, Jiro is fused with Shigure Kintoki for additional abilities of tracing hidden opponents, and Takeshi wields two swords instead of four as in the previous style.

[The video feed turns on with part of someone's face shown on the screen.] Hmm? Oh, I'm too close. [There's laughter as the camera moves before the user moves away to give a wave at the recording device.]
Hey there! My name's Takeshi Yamamoto. Nice to meet you all! ...Or I guess "I'm back?" I've been told I've been here before, but I don't remember any of it. If you remember me but I don't recognize you... Sorry about it! [He gives an apologetic smile as he scratches the side of his head.] But I hope we can still be friends again, though! Or if you don't know me, then I hope we can become friends!
[He scratches his cheek, feeling slightly awkward.] Hmm, what else... I didn't even have a cell phone before, so I'm not used to this sort of thing. [He gives another light laugh at that.]
I've also heard that there's a lot of sports stuff going on, including baseball! I like playing ball too, so I hope you'll let me practice with you guys! [He gives a grin, not exactly in a taunting way, but you can tell from his expression that he's fired up for it.]
Hmm, I think that's about it. I'll see you guys around! [The previous grin turns back to his usual smile as he gives a light wave, and he reaches over at the camera to turn off the feed.]
Third Person:
No matter where you are, batting centers all seemed the same to Takeshi as he stood in the batter box, getting ready for his daily morning practice. Or at least that's what Takeshi hoped, since batting centers were one of the places he spent the most time back at Namimori.
This place was nowhere like Namimori, though, especially when there's no Tsuna or everyone else other than Gokudera. Tsuna isn't around...
He feels his shoulders slump a little at the thought of that. His closest friend isn't around. To actually have that thought run across his head even for a brief moment made him feel a tad lonely. He knows he's not completely alone, the self-proclaimed Tsuna's right arm is around--who has been stuck in this place for over a year now. Who knows how lonely the other had felt with no one from Namimori was here for that long? Just knowing that made it hard for Takeshi to wish going back home. What if Gokudera's still stuck here and he's back to being alone again? He's not going to let that happen.
"Hmm, gloomy thoughts isn't like me." Takeshi talks to himself as he straightened up, lightly swinging the bat as a warm up before the machine started its rounds. Normally, he'd spend some time training with his Shigure Kintoki, but the sword was nowhere to be found when he did his initial look around his new home. Nor could he find the Necklace of the Rain.
A light klang! is heard as the ball flies towards the opposite side of the opening, hitting the home run mark attached to the net. A few more machine pitches were thrown, and all of them hit their marks.
"...Alright!" Hitting the homerun mark after another has always been so refreshing... Maybe he'll give his daily practice a light spin--didn't the machines here have a higher maximum speed? Maybe he'll try a hand at that. Why not? I still got time til school.
And with that thought, he goes to set the machine's speed higher before getting back into his batting position. As soon as the machine lets the ball go, the cheerful look from Takeshi's face is gone as he takes a swing at the pitch faster than before.
